Mattel Hoverboard

Marty McFly’s ‘Back to the Future II’ Hover board

When Marty McFly stole a little girls’ hover board to out-fly his chasers during the 1989 film ‘Back to the Future 2’, an icon was born. Since then replicas of the original movie prop were widely sold. Of course the thing that lacked the most was the the actual levitation feature.

So for the BTTF enthusiast or someone who wants something truly unique, we made a real working hover board!  Magnetically levitated and based on the original Mattel Replica.

! These hover board displays are created in limited run just shy of ten. With Mattel not continuing their replica’s we won’t be able to create new ones either. However, if you can get your hands on one and you want to make it really come into its own by permanently levitating it; we can help you. Contact us to discuss options.

A dual flux 45 module or a dual Void 71   can be used for this project.

The Hover board display is activated by inserting the power plug into the mains. Hold the hover board on the top of your fingertips with the two cylinders facing downwards. Hold it over the base and center the reflective spots above both sensors until “lock” occurs, then carefully release the front end of the board. With one hand lightly gripping the back-end. Gently let go and the hover board is floating! Please note that the hover board will only work above its intended base and does not work on water. We also advise against using the hover board to try and outrun oddly clothed street gangs.;)
